Being friendly is so much better than being aggressive or shy. You are very lucky.. I have to work very hard to keep my dogs friendly, as it is their breed's nature to be untrusting of strangers.

Every dog has a different personality. It sounds like your dog is bold, adventurous and friendly. Those are good traits to have in a dog. Controlling your dog does not take those traits away from his personality and no amount of training, if done correctly, will turn him into a "biter." It's a good idea to keep him on a leash during walks while he's a pup until he learns some basic things (sit, stay, come). Pick a side (right or left) and keep him on that side close to you when you go on walks. Be sure to stop frequently and let him sniff around and adventure freely from time to time. Later, he'll be used to walking with you on that side and it will be easy to teach him to heal. It doesn't take much time every day to teach your dog these basic commands. If he can learn sit, stay, come, and heal and obey when you give him those commands, he will be a more pleasant dog to be around. Consequently, all that training makes him a happier dog as well. He interprets it as active attention.

Friendly is just what you want in a dog.
When he is older, you could take him to a class to have him trained to protect on command.
As for your house, most dogs when they become an adult (2 yrs) will protect there turf and bark at strangers.
My Dane will bark up a storm when someone comes to our door, but in public he loves everybody he meets.

Dogs are not scared of strangers, they are pack animals and as such there are new members added to the pack all the time. They are social animals which means they like to interact with new members of the pack. You are his pack, and everyone he meets that looks like you is obviously from your pack, so he wants to play with his pack mates. If you want him to stop doing this obedience school is your best bet.

different dogs do different things. It sounds like your dog just wants more attention. But as he gets older, it should stop.

'cause he is friendly. don't discourage him from doing it or you will make him a biter. you should probably get some training for yourself on how to train you dog before you screw him up... he does it 'cause he has no fear and he is curious... don't do anything to change his personality... should he try to change yours?
