Start with faith. If you share a religious belief with the person (or general life philosophy if you're not religious) then you'll have a strong foundation to build a lifelong relationship. No matter how much you love the person, there will be times you don't even LIKE the person, and that's when you have to know that your basic values will carry the marriage until the feeling of true love returns.

That kind of foundation builds trust, and with trust, you can share more and more of your heart. Then you'll have something truly unbreakable. Good luck!

Someone I can openly and honestly communicate with .. this as well will come with trust. Needless to say there isn't much of a relationship with out a friendship..

Patience is important as well, especially when you add children into the mix. Needless to say without patience, the relationship will be extremely hard.

Looks fade, careers can change, we all grow with time as well as our intelligence.

i think that the most important thing is that you are on the same page as that person on the things that matter most to you. there are enough petty things to argue about day to day, you need to know that that person is comin from the same place, that yall agree on the big stuff. you gotta enjoy the same things, that way you dont spend a lot of time doing stuff you hate just to be with someone you like!!! OH, and they really shouldnt be addicted to drugs or anything, either- what a hassle!

Hi Solomon, The most important thing in a man,is trust. If you don't have trust you don't have anything.I know this for a fact. That's why i am divorcing my X to be.No trust at all.He tore our relationship apart, and no one deserves to be treated that way.YES it is TRUST all the way.

Open and honest communication.

If you can't talk with someone now, what's it going to be like in 10, 30, or 50 years time when the looks have gone?

someone who you can truly be comfortable as yourself with.
everyone is always playing different roles with different people, but when you find that 1 person who allows you to drop all those masks and just be yourself then you have found your perfect mate
