The cost will depend on where you are. Vegas is a cheap place to get married.

Some JPs charge a standard amount. The one that we went to only charged a "donation", and it didn't matter how much it was. She just loved to marry people. We caught her at the last minute as she was about to leave the door.

The $45 must be your state or county. We paid closer to $30. You can get a list at the court house of local JPs, and their numbers, and then you can call around and find out which one charges what you can afford. Let's say you picked one that was around $20. You'd still want to bring enough to get a decent room over night at maybe a bed and breakfast, and gas home, so about $200 is the best amount for a decent, short, romantic elopement.

In every place it's different. Start at the court house, when you apply for the license. If there's a JP there, then you don't even have to look around. Sometimes, in some places, there is. Sometimes there isn't, and then is when they'll either have the list of local JPs, or tell you directions to one. After the JP marries you, they take your license and fill it out, and then you mail it to the address they provide you with. When it's finally recorded, they send it back to you, and only then are you officially married. If you skip the JP or don't mail it in on time, you wasted all of your time and money for nothing, so don't forget.

JP weddings are just as special as church weddings. I loved mine. It was personal and quiet, in the JPs house, and it felt like a moment just made for the three of us. She even picked out a candle from her collection to give us as a gift. You won't regret being married that way.

Well, its way cheaper than a big wedding... but I would Imagine that a Justice of the Peace would cost round about $50. Then you have the added costs of travel, accomodation and whatever you want to wear.

Good on you for making this decision - hope it all works out.

Im getting married in Feb and sometimes I wish we could have eloped - its heaps cheaper.

It depends on the justice of the peace.

You can also get married at a court house. I would just start making phone calls and ask. That wouldbe the best.

Me and my hubby went to the courthouse and had the judge marry us. He didn't charge us anything. The only thing we had to pay for was the license and it was only $18.00 where I live. I am not sure if all counties and states charge different amounts or not. So in all my marriage cost me $18.00!!!!!!!!!! And it is a wonderful marriage.
