Jesus is saying that the time has come for worshipers to have a relationship with God. They won't fake it, they won't guess and they won't have to read examples of worship from the prophets. They will have a personal understanding of what it is to relate to God. Christianity isn't a religion of practice in the sense of repeating traditional prayers and singing by rote the hymns of the past, but have a living worship, making their own songs, speaking their own prayers to a God who is personal and present.

You're question and explanation seem rather unrelated but let's see what we can do with this.

Worship is something that encompasses every part of a person's life. The context of the verse you sighted is this:

21Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

25The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us."

26Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he."

- John 4:21-26

The issue Jesus was addressing was the disagreement between the Jews and Samaritans as to where (or how) was the proper type of worship. Jesus was explaining to the woman at the well that these old earth bound systems were about to be revolutionized and now God was not simply in the Temple or on a mountain but would soon be in His people. The people who worship in spirit and in truth are these people. They are a people filled with God's Holy Spirit and who hold the truth of God and His saving work.

It always helps to read things in context.

It means that people MUST be "Born Again!" The only way that we can worship the Father in Spirit and Truth is to have God's Holy Spirit, otherwise known as the Spirit of Truth, living inside us. All those who practice lying over and over again give evidence that either they were never "Born Again" or they grieved the Holy Spirit, after they received Jesus as their Savior, but never made Him Lord over their life. The Bible says that if we turn from our sins and are Baptized in the name of Jesus for the payment of our sins, then God will give us the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost will lead you in all truth, if you listen and obey the words of Jesus.

One person answered, It is a true relationship with God, or something to that effect. I suppose Moses did not have a true relationship, then. That can't be it. Lots of people had true relationships with God. Acts 2:4 says they were filled with the spirit and began to speak with tongues. Well, that IS what it says.
