We hare hopefully getting a house very soon ,and I have no clue on how to decorate my daughters room. She will be three in November. She is not that girly so I don't know if I should do her room girly or not. I have this picture in my head of pastel colors with butterflies and dragonflies. My daughter is into cars and trains, but she can also be somewhat girly at times. So any ideas will be great.

Thanks to all

When I got my first apartment, I decorated my daughters room by painting it a very light purple. Then I went to my local craft store and got fabric butterflies and dragonflies on wires, put some screws into random places on her walls and attached them. It looked really cool and you couldn't even see the screws.

I don't know if your daughter likes to draw, but Home Depot also has this stuff called Dry Erase Tape... it's like a dry erase board on a roll. You put it on the wall and your child can draw to her hearts content. You can dress it up by putting a border you could let her pick out around it. That way when she can feel like she helped which I KNOW is a big thing for my daughter and she is 4yrs old now.

They also had magnetic playsets that you can mount on walls of castles and knights, cars, tractors, all sorts of stuff which can help even out the girliness. My daughter is into superheroes and princesses now:)

Have Fun decorating with your little girl!! :) We had a blast!!

My daughter is the same age group. I would still do a girly theme. My daughter loves Dora but also plays in the dirt with dinosaurs, trains, cars, and anything that her brother plays with. If you want to do girly colors but do a theme in her intrests too do a room in the butterflies and drgonflies and add pastel colored cars like VW bugs. I have the same battle right now in my head with my daughters room.

Go to the paint store, select a few colors, and tell her to pic k the color or colors that she likes!
You could decorate with family framed photos and her artwork.
i put up animal pictures and # charts in my daughters room. It inspired her to enjoy numbers and counting.
Then when she gets older, she can be more vocal about what or how she wants to decorate!
have fun and dont stress about it :)

what you said would be very pretty..but dont just have pink or purple colors...make it colorful..add blue, green ,orange etc...that way furniture , carpet or any other things can match the beautiful art..the art in all diffent colors of pastel is not too girly...she plays with boy stuff now but soon she would be asking for barbies and dolls

Do HER favorite things-- cars and trains--but give them a little girl touch--girl engineer, teddy bear engineers/drivers, etc.

What are HER favorite colors--those would be the ones I would choose--and work other things around that. I have found most little kids (girls and boys) like bright colors--so I would stay away from the pastels.

aww thats sweet. anyway, your daughter is going through the growing up process so right now she can be fascinated by absolutely anything. so don't decide whether she's girly or not so early, because it would inevitably affect how girly she is in the future. keep it simple, so that you can modify the room easily when she learn about individuality. i used to be what adults would call a "tom boy", and i got much more toned own as i got older.
hope it helps :)

I would do her room in the pastels, but also maybe get on of those activity rugs(wal-mart used to sell them) that looks like a town with roads and such, put it on the floor and let her play with her cars if she want to.

Use neutral colours and let her put up pictures and posters of her choosing. Then it will be 'her' room!
