You can make butter in a blender or a stand mixer, or with a handheld mixer. Just beat (or blend) whipping cream on high until it coagulates and forms globules of butter. Press out the liquid and form into a block. My bread machine makes homemade butter. I just use heavy whipping cream (the higher the milk fat content, the better) and the machine's paddle mixes/stirs it for about 30 minutes at a low to medium speed.

And believe it or not - I just read this on Recipelink:

"My bread machine makes homemade butter. I just use heavy whipping cream (the higher the milk fat content, the better) and the machine's paddle mixes/stirs it for about 30 minutes at a low to medium speed. "

Apparantly there are Toastmaster bread machines with a butter cycle. If yours doesn't have one you may be out of luck.

All butter should be refrigerated or kept away from the air (like in a European style butter keeper). I think a butter keeper would be great for homemade butter since it would protect your fresh delicious butter from soaking up the yucky refrigerator flavors. Good luck!

You can't. Butter has to be churned at a reasonably constant speed (not fast). Bread machine's have a heating element to make bread rise . Heating the raw milk or cream would destroy any hope of success for you. A slow churn and constant temperature is the only thing that work's. If you want to do a small amount of butter you can use a quart, glass fruit jar. Shake back and forth and watch butter form. It takes a while, won't happen in 10 minutes. Good luck.

Bread machines are for making bread, not butter. To make butter buy some heavy cream and pour into a jar. Have the kids shake and shake the jar until the butter forms. My son did this in his kindergarten class and the butter is very good.
