Most would say the origin comes from the bible.

Mathew 12

30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not awith me scattereth abroad.

It was one of Jesus 's teachings . It was in a parible. Jesus said if you are not for him you are aginst him. You can't be 1/2 way. Or luke worm. You are ether all the way for Jesus or 100% for the devil
