What follows below is my response to a friend’s email concerning the same issue as what is being discussed in this forum:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Its one thing for the common street hoodlum, or radical foot soldier, in Muslim countries, to be enraged by the comments made by the Pope. I don’t expect many of them to take time to deliberate the issue, or subsume the Pope’s comments in the proper context. They are reactionary beings. However, you would think that Imams’ and other Muslim clerics would me more academic in their reception of comments made by other religious leaders, affording their colleagues on the other side of the religious spectrum a fair hearing. Instead these so called learned men of Muslim upbringing are just as reactionary as the ruffians on the streets of Palestine, or the insurgents attacking their own people in Iraq.
It’s bizarre that both Jews and Christians are called to make concessions and penance to placate Muslim sensitivities, and yet any offense to Christian ideals or people by Muslim authorities is met with deafening silence. When Christian churches are burned to the ground, when our iconography is desecrated because of Islamic militancy, and when death threats are levied on our most revered religious figures, no one in our ranks cries out for apologies or even reparations. No calls for the destruction of Mosques; no command for the assassination of Muslim leaders; and no vitriolic statements from our religious leaders are made concerning Muslim clerics. Even when the more radical fringe of Christendom – men like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson – make inflammatory remarks concerning Muslims and Islam, there is a large outcry from both mainline Christianity and the western secular media denouncing their statements as inane and immoral.
It is the Muslim world that has failed dismally in their efforts to do the same. We always point the incriminating finger at those within our fold that act in a manner that is in discord with what we believe to be the noble thing to do. Muslim “moderates” standby quietly giving tacit approval to the aggression of their more “radical” brethren.
Muslims constantly lament the disproportionate military response to 9/11 that Bush has made. Many in the Christian wing and in the rest of the western world have called him on it, and criticize him constantly for it. Yet when Muslim people attack Christian churches for something as trivial as a cartoon or an insensitive statement made by another Christian, no one talks about the Muslim disproportionate reaction. At least our attack of Afghanistan and Iraq, though focusing on the wrong people, returned violence for violence. Muslims, in reaction to mere rhetoric, returns temporarily hurtful words with violence. Words are eventually forgotten; a loss of life has repercussions that never really go away. You tell me who is responding in a more disproportionate fashion? Who in this scenario is responding more unjustly?
I wonder if Muslims realize how utterly feeble minded they look every time they respond like this? I am curious if “moderate” Muslims are cognizant of the fact that the more they remain mute concerning the wrong doings of their radical counterparts, the more the rest of the world will see them as one in the same? For my part, I a little doubtful as to how divergent “moderate” Muslims are ideologically from their “radical” colleagues. Both of them believe that Muhammad is the supreme prophet, one who supersedes even Jesus in divine significance. Muslims of both “radical” and “moderate” stripe believe that Muhammad is also the ultimate paradigm of human behavior; a model that should be emulated as close as possible. Both, if truly candid, must acknowledge that Muhammad, UNLIKE Jesus, who is the Christian’s primary example for living, was a military commander that took part in violence, order assassinations, and engaged in all the brutality associated with a military enterprise. He ordered the execution of those whose only sin was to ridicule him. These are historical facts attested to in their Qu’ran, Hadith, and secular Arabian history. Maybe the so called “moderate” Muslims don’t vocalize dissent against the “radicals” in their midst because they know, in their heart of hearts, that those the world likes to marginalize as “radicals” really represent the manner of behavior Muhammad would have condoned. The “moderates” remain silent, so as not to underscore their secret agreement with “radical” tactics and their own cowardice at not acting on principles they agree with.
I am disappointed at my Pope for apologizing for statements that are truthful. The truth is always offensive. Jesus made statements to the Pharisees that were infused with controversy. He never apologized for them, despite how inflammatory they might have been. There is no need for Pope Benedict XVI to qualify his statement with an appeal to proper context. Even as an isolated statement, the statements by the Byzantine emperor, that the Pope was quoting, are a truthful assessment of Islam’s prophet. The Catholic Church needs stop being politically correct. The Catholic Church needs to cease abiding by a culture of appeasement. Why should the Pope apologize for the narrow minds of those who cannot read a statement in its context, or who cannot admit to the dark side of their faith? Contrition and forgiveness are foundations to the Christian faith, but to be contrite, when one is not at fault, makes a mockery of reconciliation. If the church continues to be spineless like this, even I will want to leave it.

Excellent observations, and if I may continue..... where is the Jews apology? Iran recently ran a exhibition celebrating the holocaust, while still denying it at the same time. Where is the UK's apology? The list just goes on and on. My advice to the Pope or any other country or politician is NEVER apologise to Muslims. They deserve everything they are getting and more. We all know they want to create a caliphate in Europe in their quest to force the world to become Muslim. They can only ever do it by force. And thats EXACTLY what the Pope was referring to, quoting from the 14th Century. This is war, A war started by the evil Muslims. A war we in the west did not want. No reason for apology. Let them first apologise for the harm they are causing innocent citizens. Let them reign in the Bin Ladens, the Al Zawahiris and other lunatics who are waging this useless war.

I guess we're kind of lucky in that the bombs are only turning up on buses and buildings are only falling down every few years when other countries have their bombs falling out the sky and onto their houses and hospitals all the time.
I'm not for or against any conflicts going on, I just realise that they're happening but also realise that it's a bit cheeky to complain like we (western) are the only people living in dangerous times.
If you compare them we actually have it easy.
Oh yeah, no Muslim should have to apologise to anyone for what other Muslims did since they weren't part of it, but they should be more vocal in condemning it.

It is true, the leaders of the Islamic faith need to aplogize for those Muslims within the faith that have misinterpreted the writings of thier holy book. Just as Christians have in centuries past. The difference today is that Christians know that true faith cannot be forced upon a person but that they must come to a personal realization of what and who they believe in. Those Muslims, currently labled as "fanatics" believe that all mankind will bow to Allah, even under threat of the "sword" or they must die - not to mention thier belief that all jewish people must be wiped from the face of Earth. In this last fact there can be no compromise they believe. Throughout history of the two beliefes they have been mortal enemies. Eahc realizes that the faith of the other is so strong that no threat is great enough to cause a conversion therefore they must die. Not condoning the acts of murder some Muslims are commiting but the truth is that if Israel spoke honestly we would see that they too believe that in order for them to survive the Muslim faith must be wiped from the Earth.
No major Islamic nation will apologize for fear of the uprising of those minority "fanatics" within thier country that can and would cause great havoke and possibly bring thier downfall. The perfect example of this is the unbelievable support throughout the Islamic nations for Hammas and what they percieve as Israel's over reaction to the kidnapping of it's soldiers - let alone citizens.
Islam does not believe in compromise - under any circumstances and the "fanatics" are simply continuing that which has been taught by the "fanatics" before them.
Like it or not, we are in a religious war. Neither religion can be seen to be weak by apologizing for thier belifes. I can guarentee this - if the Christian world fell to Muslim forces those Muslim forces would turn thier focus to other non Muslim countries such as China and Russia with the same intent.
One last thing I can guarentee - not one true Islamic believer will - in thier heart - be satisfied until the entire world is Muslim. They speak compromise and yet praise those that openly defy it. They say they can live peacably, side by side, yet make no effort to stop those that continue to kill anyone that does not think thier way.
Any of the current Islamic nations are powerful enough to stop this murdering "jihad" if they really wanted to yet they don't. Why? Because they honestly don't want to. They are hoping and praying to Allah that these "fanatics" succede.
For those that believe in the Bible and Christ you have nothing to worry about - even if you are killed. He assures you that it is well in His hand and part of his plan. His plan being to bring Israel to realize that Christ was, indeed, his Son, and they will be victorious and those Gentiles (non-jew) that believd shall also see paradise. No where does He say that any part of humanity will be spared from the conflict we currently face.
I find no solace in either God or Allah. They both preach the conversion or destruction of the other in the end. This is what Islam fights for and this is what Christians fight for. The simple difference is that Islamic "fanatics" take thier belief to the grave with them as well as do all true Muslims. Can we say the same for Christians today? How many Christians or non-Muslims today are honestly willing to die for thier beliefs? It's easy to say - not so easy to do, yet we see them doing it every day and most every where.
Islamic leaders do not apologize because they see that Christian people are not willing to die for thier beliefes and therefore it (the Christian faith) cannot be true as is thiers.
I don't want to hear that our soldiers are dying every day - those soldiers, as noble as they are, and must be honored and respected, are not fighting for thier religion but for thier Nation - believe me, two different things. Our soldiers do not give themselves freely as do the suicide bomber. Our soldiers have the desire to return home, to thier loved ones. The suicied bomber has hopes of entering heaven and say goodbye to thier loved ones on Earth. This is the same mind set of all the Muslim peoples, whether they admit it or not.
One last thing everyone should think about - why is it the average life expectany of a Muslim is around 45 years when the Imams who preach and teach myrtardom are well into thier 50's or 60's or older? Why didn't they practice what they preach long ago? Is it perhaps because they care about life too much?

Muslims are the cause of all the conflicts in the world? Then who do you blame for slavery? And or the exile of the Palestinians? Or the killings for thousands of Native Americans? And Hitler claim to be a Christian?
The Holocaust was caused by Christian fundamentalism:
History is currently being distorted by the millions of Christians who lie to have us believe that the Holocaust was not a Christian deed.
Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith. Muslims are those who submit themselves to the will of Allah (God).

stunning observations, and if i will proceed..... the place is the Jews apology? Iran at present ran a exhibition celebrating the holocaust, on the same time as nevertheless denying it on the comparable time. the place is the united kingdom's apology? The checklist merely is going on and on. My suggestion to the Pope or the different united states of america or baby-kisser is rarely apologise to Muslims. They deserve each little thing they are getting and greater. all of us know they choose to create a caliphate in Europe of their quest to stress the international to alter into Muslim. they are in a position to in trouble-free terms ever do it by using stress. And thats precisely what the Pope replaced into touching on, quoting from the 14th Century. it is conflict, A conflict started by using the evil Muslims. A conflict we in the west did no longer choose. No clarification for apology. enable them to first apologise for the wear they are inflicting harmless voters. enable them to reign in the Bin Ladens, the Al Zawahiris and different lunatics who're waging this ineffective conflict.

A good question! The Muslim religion is nothing more than a cult which was conceived many centuries ago by someone claiming to have had a vision. Muslims don't accept that Jesus was the Son of God and have gone off on a tangent of their own. They thrive on the ignorance of people who are gullible enough to believe in a doctrine which will eventually send them to hell. The Lord Himself gave a clear warning to the whole world in Revelations that if any man should add anything to his word (Bible) then he would add to them the plagues which are written in the Bible, one such plague is death. Satan is a master at creating so called visions as he knows that there many people who are ignorant enough to believe it as his mission is to take as many people to hell as he can. Jesus himself said that "If you don't believe that I am he you will die in your sin" In John Ch.3 V18 he stated "He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already" so as all Muslims stand condemned before the Lord nobody is going to offer them an apology. I have noted over a period of time that Muslims are super sensitive about their Prophet and seem unable to accept any form of criticism. Where was the whole world when Jesus was crucified, does the Christian world go into a frenzy every time Jesus in the butt end of a joke?? No! We have a God who is much bigger and able to defend himself as he said that the day of reckoning would come against all ungodly men. Unlike our God of grace it seems that Muslims everywhere consider themselves to be justified before their imaginary God by their works so they put on a huge outward show of Godly indignation presumably to appear justified before their piers and maybe score brownie points with Allah. Muslims! Be warned, repent and believe in the Lord jesus Christ or face eternity in hell.

This is the truth that the pope spoke:
"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the pope said. "He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"
This is what true islam is all about: (peaceful religion my eye!)
"We swear to God to send you people who adore death as much as you adore life,"
"An Iraqi insurgent group threatened the Vatican with a suicide attack over the pope's remarks on Islam, according to a statement posted Saturday on the Web."
The statement was addressed to "you dog of Rome" and threatens to "shake your thrones and break your crosses in your home."
hmmm...the pope hit the nail on the head.
