As a family dog, I favor the Bernese mountain dog. Great fun as a puppy, then turns into a 130 lb speed bump that is devoted to kids. Friendly with people but intimidating to "strangers" based on sheer size. I never had to worry about the kids playing outside.

The friendliest dog is the dog that has the best owner. A dog is a reflection of the owner. All owners need to be the alpha. It isn't bad to be the alpha. The dog learns that you will protect it and will trust you and other people easily. Some of the most vicious dogs can be "little" dogs. No one thinks they need any discipline. And some of the sweetest dogs are enormous or infamous. Pit bulls, called this only because this is the breed that was genetically designed to fight in pitts, are intelligent, loving, good natured and lovable. It's because the owner shows the dog rules, boundaries and limitations. Don't choose your dog from pictures, go to the shelter, have the workers bring dogs out that can get along in a group and spend time in the group, don't touch, look or talk to the dogs. The dog that accepts you as a leader will soon be noticed. That dog will be a natural follower, to you. This will be your best friend for years to come. Let the animal choose you. You be alpha. Maybe you find that a doberman, or a cockapoo wants to be your friend. If you get a puppy without an introduction time you might find out the dog is nuts, and will drive you crazy. Your neighbor will love the dog and the dog will love the neighbor. They are meant for each other.

Chahuahua is a very smart dog and very lovable. It isn't bred for labor, unlike the lab, and it is small and carriable and is good tempered. I am an expert on dog breeds, believe me!!!!!!!!! YOu might want to try golden retriever too,if you are looking for a big dog that will baby sit your children and will not be agressive no matter what. A good mix is a pooodle and chihahuahua. Believe me.

I have heard the same things about labs, but another dog would be the Sheltie (mini lassie's). I have had two of them since I was born, and no matter how much I torchured my dog when I was little (2yrs old), my dog would never go against me. I now have another dog and me and my sister are older, but we have cousins that are younger, and my dog has never tried to bite or attack them in anyway. Shelties range in weight from 15-30lbs and are very cute. If you are looking for a smaller dog, I would suggest this one. They do shed a lot, but if you can get passed that, then this might be the dog for you.

Ive owned Greyhounds all my life and there a good natured dog. but as Dale said it, all depends on the owner of the animal. If the owner cant handle the dog or be the alpha then there not going to be friendly. Its like having children if you raise them knowing right from wrong they grow up friendly and well mannered. So it all comes back to the owner..

Golden Retrievers are the best dogs with children. Black Labs are friendly but sometimes incredibly stupid. As someone already said, they're a handful...mine's not quite a year old and chews up EVERYTHING...kid's shoes, 3 water hoses so far, and anything we leave outside is fair game to her

actually a mixed breed will most likely be more good nature than a pure breed dog. But if you are looking for a pure breed than a lab is the way to go. Than always treat your dog with love and it will respond back to you.

Labs are cute and good natured. They are big dogs and need room to run and play. I had a mixed dog, Pudgie. She was the friendliest and cutest little dog. She was part terrier and poodle.
She looked like "Benji".

Bichon Frise...They know no strangers, are considered lap dogs(lovable) and will allow children to play house with them(don't know that you can get more good-natured than that).
