I'd like to know from other Wiccans or Pagans, please. No attempts at converting, because it'll go in one ear and out the other, so to speak. I've made up my mind. I just need a little guidance. Thank you.

Okay, I wasn't going to bash Christianity, since I do have a little bit of respect for it, but since you people decided to ask, here's my reason. I turned away from Christianity because one, it makes NO SENSE. And two, it's a bigoted religion. And three, I've been practicing it my whole life and I don't get an ounce of spiritual satisfaction from it. Wicca makes me feel whole, like I'm not alone in this world. Okay?

But if you don't want to hear the other side of the story, how do you really know what you're getting into?

Christianity isn't a bigoted religion. Some people might try to make it into that. Christianity is what you make of it. Christians do charitable work, save lives, build hospitals, and help people. It's only when one screws up that it seems to make the headlines.

Joining Wicca just because you're mad at Christians isn't a good reason to join, and I think most Wiccans would even tell you that.

Oh, so you're going to become a Wiccan 2 rebel? Sounds like it 2 me since your first sentence is "I was an unhappy Christian". Joining to rebel isn't a good reason to join. You have to have a calling from the goddess, and my intuition says you don't have that. I think you have a lot of anger and bitterness you have to work out first.

If you just want to rebel, just become a satanist. That'll really show 'em! Most of the fluffies will tell you how to become a Wiccan (or their definition of it), but I don't think that would be fair to you.

Being a Wiccan means being initiated into a real coven through the Great Rite (sex), that worships skyclad (nude). You'd have to find a real coven.
You take a blood oath never to betray your coven, so don't take it lightly. The Book of Shadows says "And if any break these laws, even under torture, The Curse of the Goddess shall be upon them, so they never reborn on earth, And may they remain where they belong, in the Hell of the Christians."
(and before anyone says otherwise, it's in there, look it up). So please take it seriously. This isn't like getting a tattoo. If you ever join and change your mind, there will be a price to pay.

I sowee you unhappy. Grow up.

Wiccans don't recruit (real ones, anyway). You need to be thick skinned to be a Wiccan, or you won't last. Eventually you'd be unhappy with Wicca and then convert to something else. Why not try Scientology? I think you'd be happier, and you're probably headed that way anyway. You can't become a Wiccan from books or websites, someone who's been initiated has to show you. If you don't, you'll wind up another morbidly obesee Wiccan who stays home and masturbates all the time.

I want to know why people think it would be better for you to be an unhappy christian than a happy anything else? This is the way I've looked at this issue for years, and I've actually seen it in books now! Deity (God, Goddess, whatever you like) is like a multifaceted jewel. Even if you only see one side (facet) of it, you are still seeing a part of the truth. The way I see it, we're all going toward the same place (eventually), it's just that there as many ways of getting there as there are souls looking. Another place you can do some reading is www.sacred-texts.com. This is a wonderful resource, and gives much information on many different paths... Islam, Judaism, the different sects of christianity, Buddhism, and many more as well as addressing classical mythologies of the world. Good luck to you on your search, and I hope you find what you're looking for.

Pathces is right, you need to read up on everything you can find on the wiccan religion. You can't really decide to become a certain religion until you know all about it.

You also need to find out what about the christian religion that made you so unhappy. Was it the religion itself or the people around it.? Every religion has things in it that people do not like. You may find that in the wiccan religion things that you do not like.

I feel most religions are mostly the same, they just do things in different ways.

Well, you need to read all you can on the subject and try to decide if you want to be a wiccan or a pagan since they're very different. Even then paganism has many sects as well as other areas of the occul.
A good way to get started is to take a look at some of the following websites.
www.philhine.org.uk for chaosmagick
www.crystalinks.com for wiccan related stuff
www.hermetic.com for thelema/OTO
www.llewyen.com for wiccan and new age stuff
Also look up on wikipedia the terms wicca, pagan, aleister crowley, austin osmand spare, and chaos magick. That should give you a good start. Email me if ya have any questions.

If you are serious...the best thing to do is pick up a few befginners books and read them. They all contain some form of beginners knowledge that everyone needs.

Others might actually flame me for this...but Silver Ravenwolf's books Riding a Broomstick is actually a great 101 tutorial for those that have no idea where to go next. But then I still say read more and develop an understanding of where you are heading with this. Learn for the sake of learning.

You might be at a crossroads in your life and paganism might not be the full answer you are looking for also look to other religions and philosophies. If nothing else it teaches you open mindedness and tolerance.

I trust you are smarter than this, but its not all about do as ya' want with half the guilt. Do only what you are confortable with and let no one lead you astray from your own mind. Spines are wonderful things.

If you are really interested, just do a ton of research. Check books out of the library, buy a few books of your own, and look online. If you live in a big city of near a college campus, there is probably a metaphysical store near you. Those stores usually hold classes for beginners. If not, Wiccans are renowned for their openess and patience (they have to be to be in touch with themselves and their world) and most will go out of their way to help a newbie, so just ask someone working there politely about any questions you may have.
