My daughter is nearly 6 months old, and I am still breastfeeding. I have not yet had my period return. I am not complaining, but I am wondering if this is normal, or if I should go to my doctor. I cannot possibly be pregnant again, as I have not had sex in over a year. I don't personally know anyone else who has had this long of a delay, so I am concerned.

I think it is normal. I got mine right after my kid was born, but my body was having problems.

I am still breastfeeding my 13 month old and still have not gotten my period. I think it just has to do with you as an individual. I didn't get it back with my other child until she was 14 months. I am not worrying about it. I am thankful it has stayed away this long. If you are worried ask your doctor. I think it is just the way you are.

no worries
as long as you are lactating (ie producing milk), your period will not return. I breastfed all 3 of my children and in 6 years only had a half dozen periods or so - just enough to get pregnant again.
If you slow down your feedings, ie once a day or less, your period may start up again, but I would recommend breastfeeding for at least a year - it's best for baby AND best for you.

I know just how you feel....I had the same situation.
I breastfeed my daughter and I didn't have a period
until she was 7 months old. Its normal when your breast
feeding for your period not to come back right away...I
have heard of women not getting one for up to a year
after giving birth...If you are worried or are having other
problems I would call or go to your doctor, if not enjoy it
while it lasts! :o)
Congrats on BabY.

I had my son in April, got my first period after in February, 10 months later, which made 20 months of period free living.
I had my daughter in March, got my first period in February, 11 months later, which made 21 months of period free living.

I loved it both times. My ob told me that it was normal, and I had nothing to worry about. Your body is producing enough hormones from breastfeeding that it's simulating pregnancy. So you aren't having your period as a result, and many times, women aren't producing eggs either, it's nature's way of birth control. I think that your body knows that it's not ready for another baby just yet. :-)

You will not get your period until you are done breastfeeding. It is normal. I breastfeed until my baby was 9 months and I asked my doctor and she said it happenes to everyone but just because you don't get your period doesn't mean you can't get pregnant they do have a birth control for breastfeeding women I belive it's called camila. If you have any questions to my answer let me know. nation21@comcast.net

You cant be completely sure. Its normal not to get your period while your breastfeeding, thats a good advantage of it, but normally after you stop breastfeeding it will start. But sometimes that's not the case. BUt you should be getting it soon. I remember that I didnt get my period until 4 weeks after I had stopped

after giving birth to a baby and breast feeding it takes time for your body to get a period again in the first 6 months with breast feeding your body will not conceive as the breast feeding stops that after that time should take some contraceptives to stop pregnancy occurring it is not a problem dont worry about it

All nursing moms have different experiences as to when their periods return. I nursed all three of my children and did not have a period for close to a year with all three. I would say that if you are abstinent, then do not worry. But, if not, you should be on Micronor (mini-pill) until you wean. If, you are still worried, call your obstetrician.

Mothers who breastfeed usually skip their menstrual period for some time after birth. Skipping periods during breastfeeding is called “lactational amenorrhea.” During lactational amenorrhea women are less likely to get pregnant, though the possibility still exists.

Menstruation generally occurs after the baby starts to suck less frequently.
