I'm getting married in Jan 07 and I can't find a song for my dad and I to dance to. I don't want to use "Daddy's little girl" or "Butterfly Kisses" because I feel they are both played out at weddings...any suggestions????

"I loved her first" by Heartland

Listen to the song, it will make you bawl. I think it is perfect for the father-daughter dance.

Most definitely "I Loved Her First" by Heartland. Below are the lyrics. By the way it is set to a beautiful Waltz melody.

Artist : Heartland
Title : I Loved Her First
Album : N/A
Genre : Country

I LOVED HER FIRST

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

MY LITTLE GIRL
From the moment I first held you
And rocked you to sleep
In my heart I knew
A child is never yours to keep
I knew one day you'd learn to fly
But I never dreamed what I'd feel inside

CHORUS

As I dance the last dance
With my little girl
And the first with the woman
Who's found her place in the world
I see the woman in you
But for my whole life through
You'll always be my little girl

You wrapped me 'round your finger
Your smile made me melt
I wished so many times
I would've told you what I felt
From your first steps
to sweet sixteen
The rush of memories
feels like a dream

CHORUS

I see the woman in you
But for my whole life through
You'll always be my little girl

YOU'RE MY HERO
I would ride on your shoulders
And look out on the world
Pretending I was big and tall like you
When you were there to hold me
I never was afraid
You made me feel there's nothing I can't do

If I'd spread my wings to fly
When I was very small
I knew that you'd be standing by
To catch me if I fall

CHORUS
You're my hero
Chasing the monsters from my room
Going on trips around the moon
The one who's always been there faithfully
You're my hero
And 'cause you're my Dad…
I'm twice as blessed and lucky to be me

As I kept on growing
We often disagreed
But you let me find myself in my own way
And it's funny, how just lately
I've come to recognize
How wise you are becoming every day
There's so much you've given me
I hope I've made you proud
You're everything a Dad should be
And it's time to tell you now

You're my hero
You didn't have to say a word
Your love was the message that I heard
Inspiring me to be all I can be
You're my hero
And 'cause you're my Dad…
I'm twice as blessed and lucky to be me

Oh, dear, don't do "Dance With My Father Again", because the lyrics are about a father who's passed away...not for a wedding, surely!

How about "Thank Heaven for Little Girls"? An oldie, but a goodie, and very sweet.

I heard a new song on the radio recently. It is called "I Loved Her First" by Heartland. You can find it on EMusic.com. It is very beautiful. I think the lyrics say exactly what a father feels on his daughter's wedding day. Hope this helps you out.

Stevie Wonder - Isn't She Lovely
Oldie but goodie. I love this song and I played it at my wedding for my father/daughter dance.

Does your dad have a favorite song? I didn't want to do any of the traditional songs, either, so we danced to "I Left my Heart in San Francisco", because we both love Tony Bennet, and it has to be one of my father's favorite tunes.

It really depends on the type of genre you prefer. The songs already listed sound like winners, so I just wanted to add one more to the mix hoping that'll it help.

Dance with my father: Luther Vandross

Congrats & Good Luck!!
