Because we live in a society that believes in coddling children so as not to injure their delicate "psyches" because we don't want them to grow up angry or anything. What we are just beginning to realize is that kids want and need boundaries so that they can learn that when they go out into the world that they do have to abide by the laws of the land and that they can't get their first job as president of the company, and they might have to start out doing something they'd rather not do for the rest of their lives like scrubbing toilets or flipping burgers, and that that's how you get the ambition to better yourself as a person.

I was born and raised in Canada. We lived in the sticks, what were we going to do? My parents trusted me and my brother so they never bothered giving us cerfews. I'm sure there are many Canadian parents that are strict, I had a friend in the 6 or 7 grade and her parents never let her do anything. It was alot of begging and pleading just to get her to sleep over. I think it's all about who your parents are and how they were raised.

please don't get me wrong because I enjoy meeting people from all over the world but...
Canadian adults are very rude people to restaurant personel and store clerks and surprisingly thier chidren are very well behaved.
i don't know why...it's not all Canadians though...just the French ones...which is funny because i'm 1/2 French Canadian and I can't stand how rude they are.

That's a hasty generalization.

Look at Americans. A lot of our parents don't care what we do - and a lot of them are strict. You can't look at one American family and decide that they are the epitomy of American parenting...it's silly.

No. Because you are over-generalizing an entire population. You can't do that. It is impossible to do.
