My Great Dane is about 2 years old, and every now and again he will have these things on his face that look like pimples. They eventually open up and a little puss and blood come out and go away. When I take him in for his next round of "puppy" shots, I will ask the vet what this is, but wondered if anyone out there has seen this before and if so, what does one do about it?????

Yes, it is called canine acne.. You can apply human acne meds to help them heal..Use only metal or glass/ceramic bowls, and wash them daily..Dobermans and Great Danes are the dogs in which this condition is most common.

All a pimple is is a blocked pore that gets infected, so i guess any animal can get pimples, but if your worried see your vet.

Since a pimple is a clogged pore any mammal can get one. Keep the area clean and do not "pop" them.

If you are using a plastic food bowl, switch to stainless steel. Plastic bowls can harbor bacteria and cause/ exacerbate this problem. Wipe his face after he eats.
