"Mycobacterium leprae" is the scientific name for the pathogen of Leprosy. It is an intracellular, pleomorphic, acid fast bacterium. M. Leprae is a gram-positive aerobic rod-shaped (bacillus) surrounded by the characteristic waxy coating unique to mycobacteria.
