Maybe a bowl of cereal, toast, a muffin, or eggs.

A banana. A Powerbar. Toast or English Muffins with jam (no butter) are all good suggestions.

You also should drink some water or Gatorade as you want to be well hydrated.

Avoid anything heavy or filled with grease. Sausage, eggs, hash browns, etc are all very bad before a morning run. Also avoid tomato or orange juice or anything acidic.

The important thing is to eat lightly for breakfast so that you won't be carrying too much in your stomach during your run.

The time to fill up is during the dinner you have the night before. Make sure you get plenty of carbs and proteins. If you run 10Ks consistently you need carbs too. Pasta, breads, rice, beans, vegetables, and fruit are all excellent sources the night before and by the next morning you should have energy even eating a light meal for breakfast. If you eat well the night before you will not fall short the next morning during your run.

I don't eat anything before I go run because it doesn't sit well on my stomach. However, everyone is different. For example: I know someone who has eaten a full breakfast and gone for a run, no problem. Try it out one day if you're feeling a bit daring. Eat a small amount and go for a light run. I eat about an hour after I run. I usually have a granola bar or some whole grain toast with jelly and one to two bottles of water. This helps my metabolism, and it should help yours too. I hope I helped.

First of all, you want something that will give you immediate energy. You are looking at something with carbs or even better. sugars, lactose, fructose and galactose (they breakdown fast).

You are running after not eating for almost, say ... 7-10hrs. Can get them in most of these bars. I love the nature valley bars. It has less funky stuff. Honey is also great.

Since you run for long. You will want some thing that will sustain you for a while. Protein does that perfectly. Peanuts/butter are(is) an all time favorite if you really want to stay organic. Fats also help in this department.

I combination of carbs and protein and you are good to go

Have fun

Some suggestions? A banana with a bottled water, fruit smoothie,1/2 cup of fresh fruit with a bagel just to name a few. But not all at the same time. You'll have something light before running and nourishment at the same time.

I'd recommend a mocha latte(the caffeine will give you a boost, and it's got immediate sugars). That's assuming you can stomach food before I run. I personally don't eat before a morning run but then again I don't cover 10km so...
Good luck.

Nothing before. No need.

Bring a sugar gel (tons of brands to choose from) on your run and hit it when you feel like the wall is close, then small amounts as you feel low.
Think in terms of a fire:

Carbs are tinder, burn fast and hot

Proteins are sticks, middle ground

Fats are logs of oak, tons of energy, but can't start a fire with them.

when i run in the morning, i usually don't have three hrs before...but i usually eat a banana because they are filling in a way, but don't make you feel like you just ate dinner or something. i also have a glass of water so i don't get too dehydrated.

nothing will last 3 hours. try to eat something high carb about 20 minutes before you run, if your stomach can handle it, you should have 8-12 ounces of fresh squeezed OJ 20 minutes b4... good luck on your training

I do smaller runs with my dog every morning, and what really gets me going is some vector cereal and a citrus food like orange or grapefruit...
