He probably should find another field.
Power systems these days are run by computers. Especially the distribution part. It would be hard to get hired as an engineer to work on those systems (or much anything else) without solid knowledge of computers.
He should talk to some people who are actually working in that field to get a more definite answer, but I'm guessing that would be what they would say.

I myself am a power engineer and I had the same problem with a bit difference.I personally don't like electronics but I love microprocessors and logic.I suggest him continue as he continues there is less and less electronics and logic in power .And maybe by studing electrinics 2 his idea will change about electronics it is a bit different from electronics 1.

These days, once you've learned the basics of electronics you can get through a career in electrical engineering, robotics, computers or nanotechnology without using it much. Say you've got a CPU chip or a GPS chip.To design a device that uses it, you don't need to know much about its internal workings; just its limitations.

Well, he can certainly get a job/career that involves power systems and such, without working much with electronics.
The curriculum that one takes to get an electrical engineering degree, however, is filled with electronics and programming. You have to take a number of courses involving both.
If he can withstand 4 years of electronics-related stuff, then maybe he should go for it.
If he really, really hates it...then maybe not.

If he hates electronics, just think about the money he'll make instead. Growing demand for good electrical engineers.

my friend wants to drive my car, but only wants to do it from my backseat. kinda hard to learn about a clock unless you know what makes it tick. dont you think power systems and the way to distribute the power is run by cpu's and programmable logic circuits.
here weigh this....... flipping burgers at Mcdonalds or be an engineer,
flipping burgers at ............
sometimes we do things we dont like, when we know we should, most of us. I hate to work to but i have to. my family depends on me to provide for them. what about yours?
