I am a dog owner. How much sense does it take for people to call a vet when their dog is hurt or sick? Instead their asking for cures and advice. What do you think?

Many of the askers are minors, and can not take the dog to the vet, and have uncaring parents.. Many are in countries that do not have vets in every town..some have been from Alaska, where vets can be 400 miles apart..Many love their dogs, but have no money..(there are services to give medical aid to people/children who have no money, but there is no state aid for pets)
For those that do not have any answers, the best procedure would be to just ignore the question, or offer a word of encouragement..
There ARE a few vet students and even ER vets, and other people knowledgeable in pet first aid, that come to this forum...So, often there IS on-line help..
We can not be the judges of other's situatons, but owe respect to all....especially our fellow pet lovers.

Well, if it's a minor health issue or a behavioral problem, the people here can be very helpful. Sometimes you just need a nudge in the right direction, and the problem can be solved easily.
But if my animal were showing signs of allergic reaction, throwing up blood, acting lethargic, etc., this would be the LAST place I'd be. I'd be headed toward the 24 hour emergency vet service here in town with my dog, just as fast as I could get there.

I'm with you. I have 2 chihuahuas & if one of them got hurt or sick I would be calling a vet not asking people on yahoo q & a that is not a vet.

i am a pet owner too. i think some people ask because they try to save money. i think that's reasonable as long as the animal is not in a life or death or painful condition.
i think that if the animal is in a crisis situation, then like you, i believe a vet should be the first to be consulted.

i don't know what exactly was wrong with the dog, but remember that it is Saturday, and most vets are not open so services may cost double.
