I am constantly yelling at my little brother and have been losing my voice much more now than I have throughout my life. My throat gets sore and it hurts to talk too loud. It goes away pretty quickly, not lasting more than a couple hours. Is there any long term effects that I should be worried about?

(answers on my throat and not about what I should do about my lil brother please)

The long term effects of losing you voice frequently is that you are causing damage on each occasion which must be repaired - it is in the repair process where the risk lies.

Each time a repair of the body is made, scar tissue is used as the replacement and this is seldom quite as good as the original, less elastic and less suited to do the job of the original. There is also the chance, (but a very slim one,) that during one of these repairs, a cancerous tissue may form. In addition, an inflamed larynx which results from overuse or misuse can become easily infected, resulting in further damage and the chance of permanent alteration and chronic laryngitis.

In any case, you would be wise to protect yourself against this sort of self-harm.

Good luck,

The long term effect of losing your voice is that you become more popular because everyone thinks you're a good listener.
