I had my dog groomed this morning by her normal groomer at her vet's office. Ever since we got home, she doesn't want to walk around. It's like the wind or air is irritating her bottom. Has anyone heard of this? She seems to act like this each time she is groomed. She is a 2 year old shih-tzu.

Thanks Joe for bringing up important details. I know the dryer they use is a hand dryer, not a cage dryer. That is one question I definitely asked. I think it might be like you said... she's just not used to the air back there... she acts like there is a draft. For example, if the wind or air blows around her, she will sit down.

I really don't think they are abusing her or are rough. She has been going to them since she was a puppy. I hope that it is just the air or maybe the powder they use on her is irritating her skin. Thanks!

ok for all those sick people, not everyone is out to hurt the dog. The simple answer is, you brought her out to the vets office, put her through a stressful situation, the next time you bring her out. The first thing she is thinking of is having to go back to the groomers. It's like children and going to daycare. They don't want to leave your side again because you might bring them back to the "bad" place and leave them. Your dog is acting like a normal dog that has gone through something she does not like. For those of you doubting the vets office shame one you.

The dog could have been given a sadative or mistreated . You can't know unless you were there watching. Sometimes a groomer will razor burn your pup and the grooming experiance is never the same for him. I have an Olde English Sheep dog that I have to groom at home now because of a careless groomer. Check around his anal area, belly, and the back side of his hind leg's. If you see red patches he has razor burn. A topical antibiotic cream is pain relieving and will make him feel much better. Either change groomers or stay with him in the future as apparently this isn't a good experiance for him. Find out why. You are your dog's only real friend, Good luck to you and him.

My shih tzu did the same thing & it was, I believe, my fault. I didn't groom him for 3-4 days & he got all matted. The groomer didn't even try to brush out the mats & just pretty much shaved the pup. When I got him home, he wouldn't walk, he would jump up & dash a few feet, sit down fast & hard & try to lick himself. He acted this way for nearly a week & just about drove me crazy. I think he freaked out because of the massive hair loss & only calmed down once his hair started growing back. Since then, I've never missed gooming him & have never taken him to a groomer again. I learned how to do it myself. The poor fella had to suffer thru some weird haircuts till I got good at it.

Stay with your dog when it is being groomed. You ahve no idea how rought and abusive some of these groomers are!

Groomers will tie your dog by the neck and hoist them up so thier front legs are not touching, so if the dog struggles it will choke. Groomers will beat your dog. Groomers will push, piull and twist your dog to make it easy on them selvves but it leave your dog battered and unable to tell you. Nest timeyou stay with your dog and see it it has trouble wlking after wards. it may be too stiff and sore to walk!

And if your groomer will not let you stay for the grooming you better assume they do not want you to see what is going on

They might be giving her a sedative. Also, I have heard the air-drying cages can cause respitory problems for some of the short snouted dogs. I would definitely bring it up with the manger of the grooming business or your vet. Of course, it could be the hair trimmed away from that area may be causing a draft she's not accustomed to. :)

They are probably shaving her too close to the skin area around her anus area and that is very irritating to her. Ask your vet what you can do to ease her discomfort and tell your groomer to stop shaving that area to close or just have them carefully scissor the hair shorter there.

whilst our canines (my parents at domicile) all started strolling with a hunched back and dragging his back legs, those indicators have been accompanied via diarreha and as quickly as we took him to the vet it grew to become out he had a difficulty with digesting ordinary canines foodstuff. the project substitute into very extreme and now we would desire to continually feed him what's relatively uncooked meat pattys my parents purchase at a distinctiveness canines furnish keep. The pattys are called "barf" i think of, or something the two unappetizing. after all, the project substitute into extreme and did require instantaneous vet interest. whether, our canines substitute into very youthful as quickly as we stumbled in this, so thinking your canines is older, and if he's not experiencing diarreha, i don't be attentive to how efficient this would be to you , yet after all i'd get him to a vet asap. sturdy success!

Maybe she just feels strange with out her fur? Sometimes our dogs get shy after they have had their hair cut and they act funny like that. Like they want to hide and don't let anyone see them. But in a day or so they come out of it.

If her nails were clipped she may be having a little discomfort...just keep an eye on her & I'd call the groomer to inquire about it.
