The cliche is "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" ... The Christians I know claim God is absolutely soveriegn. Could this explain why the world is a big mess?

SeeTheLight: You need to re-read my question. Nowhere in it did I blame God for the world being a mess. I asked COULD it be possible.

Al: Thanks for your answer but as far as me never comprehending Christian logic I will beg to differ. I understand it quite well. I was a minister for many years and I have taught their logic. Even during this time I began to question their logic because it sounded so fairy tale like to me when I would teach it. I know all about the concept of free will.

Heaven: Thanks for your answer. However I disagree with your "live in a box" comment. I have given Jesus a try as you put it for many years. I found being a Christian like "living in a box" of superstitious traditions. When I opened my box to the possibility that there is no God I found absolute freedom and peace of mind. Because I don't believe in an afterlife I try my best to make the most of this life and find it more invigorating each day. I felt the sincerity of your invitation but will have to decline.

"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely"
This can include God. I think worlds status today shows the corruption in anyone with a significant amount of power, and since we are all created in god's image it makes sense that this would apply to him as well. God is absolute to some...therefore has absolute power over humanity... look at humanity today, When God created man h had a vision... but the power he had and gave us corrupted everyone.

The world is a mess because God gave humans & angels free will,............ his perfect plan will unfold when the prophecies are complete and all were chosen and accepted him are in celebration of the perfect marriage and unconditionally loving family dynamics,....it will be made possible due to the human race spiritually evolving to pure love and by the grace of Jesus shedding his blood for everyone needing forgiveness.
There is nothing wrong or weak about believing that there is a higher conscienceness one that created us with a plan to have a big happy family to celebrate with for eternity,......one who has no plans for the afterlife lives in a box,........please friend open your box and believe in the unbelievable you will find that is what we were created for,.....bringing that which in not seen into reality....anything that you wish if you want it enough and that is not of selfish motives.
Accept that Jesus Christ is Lord.......you will oneday anyways why not humble yourself now and enjoy the fruits of the Kingdom,.....you have no right to judge if you haven't even given it him a try. If he doesn't exist then what do you have to loose to try, huh?

I am not a Christian, but I do believe in God. I do not think that He gets involved with us down here. The world is in such a mess because ot those religious books. Books written by men and claiming that the beliefs taught in them are the only way to God. Just f@#king B.S.

God is not subject to the sayings nor the conditions of man. God is sinless. This earth is in a mess because of human beings.
You cannot use the reason of man to explain the omniscience of God. It is a dog that won't hunt.

I feel that arguing about someone's faith, and using a different mindview (for you, atheism, and for them, the omnipotence of God) is a guarantee that there will be no answer, because personal decisions on your part and theirs end up with the same result: you will never comprehend their logic, and they will always have their faith.
That's really it for me.
Sidenote: God's sovereignty doesn't mean that he takes away a person's free will. Basically, it's because people are being human that the world's messed up. :)

The world is a big mess because of us humans, not because of God. He made it perfect, and we began the process to make it imperfect.

No, God is perfect. However, some times people do things in God's name that are absolutly corrupted, and this makes Him sad.

You blame God for the world's mess...and you even do not believe in Him.
It is all about the free will. I do not know bigger love than with a choice. Unfortunately other people's choices affect your life too.

You are thinking about power in human terms -- power that exists within time and has payouts measured in pleasure. I don't sense that a being that exists outside of time and does not share our forms of pleasures obeys the same rules.
