the roman catholic church, one primary founder of the new organization was a preist named Martin Luther. There is an excellent movie that portrays the time of his early years as a catholic priest into becoming a firm believer in the grace of God. It's a very accurate portrayal of the forming of the protestant faith.

calvin, luther and and othger reform-minded people in eiurope were protesting the practices and policies of the romean catholic church, and the pope. calvinism, alutherinism, and methodism were all the result of the rebellion against the catholic church and is referred to as the protestant reformation. judaism is the religion of the jewish people, and had nothing to do with the protestant reformation. roman catholisism is weht was finally the ruling church authority in rome and the pope was the head of the church. when asking about religions and religious movements, at least know what they represent if not what they believe.
