Well, as the head representative of Christianity, he should have known better than to make such a statement, from an obscure medieval text.
And about the violent muslims, how many do you think they are? How many more respond through peaceful dialogue and other peaceful means? The violent people are a small part of 1.6 billion people around the world. You cannot judge all of them through their actions.

I am not a Muslim and not a Christian either. I think, the Pope should be more sensetive with all religions in the world and must be very sure b4 making the speech because his speech is not only for the particular country that he visit but will be heard by the world.

the reaction to his statement just shows what this world has come to...the guy made a twenty minute statement that anyone who reads in its entirety would see that he obviously was not blasheming or trying to insult islam....he made reference to past pple's speeches and used it to talk about the things that are going on today....
i have nothing against muslims but with the reactions they gave all over the world you'd think that they are not educated :( X(
i just found the speech....

Have you actually read what the Pope said?
Here is a link to the English translation of the Pope's controversial speech: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/september/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20060912_university-regensburg_en.html
With love in Christ.

I think that the Pope should be the example to all Christians in being loving and accepting all religions as they are, it is something He should not discuss really, but I also think that threatening to burn churches and these things are not right also, it is O.K to protest and be mad about it but without burning and breaking.

He is off course wrong.
He should not claim through broadcast the abusive thing for billions of muslims, he knew for sure the reaction will come.
It was very stupid and foolish speach for the person of his level and position.
The reaction of muslims is justified. Do not say dirty lie- will not get reaction.
Islam has already bad reputation, this fool pope just add additional fuel to the fire...

He was not speaking with regards to something he believed rather he was speaking at a college and quoting ancient text from the 1300's.
But they in their quickness to hate have made the text appear real.

What difference does it make?
It is prophesy he overlooked, however good his intentions.
From the first, the angel of the Lord spoke to Hagar, the mother of Ishmael by Abraham, saying: "Behold thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael;...(Now note this was spoken thousands of years past)**
**.....And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethern.
It was so from the days of Abraham until now.
Even the Pope can't change this until it is time.

no he is not right. I thought that Christians are all about tolerance and loving other people no matter what their background is. The pope proves to me that what Christians believe in is just bullshit. See what is happening in Iraq and what Christians are doing in there. The Pope is the real violent person for making such statements.
