I'll admit, this is kind of a knock-off of a question this one girl asked. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmunfQCJk1yw40lBhpW1A13sy6IX?qid=20060916194944AAofaXq
If you don't want to click the link, that's fine. Basically, she asked if you were being tortured, and the only way to get out of being tortured is to say "God is fake," would you do it?
Well, my question is somewhat similar, but with different circumstances. Let's say your husband/wife, best friend, or even your kids were in the hands of a killer, with a gun to their head. If the only way to save your loved one(s) was to say "God is fake," would you do it? Think hard, because he/she WILL die if you say "God is real."

Yeah, I know, it's an extreme situation, but let's just role play for a little while. Would you, or would you not?

God would want me to do whatever I can to save my kids, because He loves them as much as I do.

If would be a horrible thing to say, but in that situation, I would use whatever wisdom and strength God has given me to save my daughters.

Some might say God would get angry at me. If someone put a gun to my daughter's head and said do you love your dad, and saying no would save her life...heck, I'd tell her to yell her "hate" as loud as she could!

peace

If the one who is being forced is of The True Christian Faith And has every reason to believe the hostage is also of The Faith...and there were not other conciderations... then No... one of The Faith would not say God is fake.... If there were other lives who were not of The Faith then the better decision would be to "fake it"...go along... God knows The Truth... Saveing a life that ay one day come to God is more important than a statement that means nothing to God... this kind of sitation has happened many times in real life and death situations.

In real life, those of The Faith often have to choose between family and God... God's Will must come first... and saving the lives and then hopefuly the souls of others is The Work of all of The Faith.

Doing the wrong thing is never the solution. If your family member died, then it would be the fault of the gunman. There are actual situations in history just like this where the person refused to say it and the gunman didn't fire the gun, and other situations where the person said what the gunman wanted and they shot the person anyway. In the end, there is no way to control what the gunman will do, only what you yourself do.

Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son for God, and it was counted as a good thing. It's sad, but we must do the same because whoever denies Jesus on Earth will be denied by Jesus in Heaven. There is also a story in Macabees where a woman and her seven sons are tortured and told to denouce God and they all refuse and are killed one by one for the faith.

To answer your question: I would say God is real.

Although I've heard the other part of this scenario (wink)...

When the person says "God is real", the gunman actually releases the loved one because what he wanted was to see if other's still believed and stood up for God....

Do a paradigm shift... Why be limited by the fearful, negative thoughts? You never know what might happen...

that could be impossible for my area because of the fact then the formation of a "cult" looks, and that actual is manifested international huge, faith status on the sidelines.i think of actual love needs to be strengthened by using sacrifice and self individuation by using an interpersonal discovery, which does exist- by using families. Now regardless of if or no longer that could be labeled as a spiritual love is distinctive for some people because of the fact religious love is experienced from persons on a separate point of know-how. What one individual perceives, yet another can very rather prepare otherwise.

if i thought that saying that to a deranged psycho would get them to let my child go i would have no problem saying that.

but then again i am pagan and my gods understand that somethings are done of human emotion and they do not reflect the beliefs of the person in all situations.

i would have to aks for a lot of forgivness after they let my child go because i would hunt them to the end of the planet and the methods that i would use to kill them would make some of the totture masters of ancient times cringe.
I am a very peacful person untill someone threatens the life of my (or any) child.

If I only had to say "God is fake", then yes because God knows I don't mean it and am only doing it to save my love one.

I've asked that question before. Very few people will renounce their religion to save their kids. I find that to be brainwashing at its most dangerous extreme.

Apalling, shocking....that's what religion does.

Shadowgirl, there is no plan C. What are you willing to do to save your kids? Renounce your god, or let your kids die. That's it. Two choices.

That would be very easy to say because God IS fake. We created him.
