Dog Keeps Licking Mouth

I once had an elderly lady for a friend. She had a wonderful little dog. A mix of some sort. She had the dog trained well and it behaved very well. Learn here https://tr.im/BIncI

She kept an uncovered candy dish on her coffee table with candy in it. The dog was forbidden to eat the candy. When she was in the room observing the dog he did not even appear to notice the candy. One day while she was in her dinning room she happened to look in a mirror and could see her dog in the living room. He did not know he was being watched. For several minutes he was sitting in front of the candy bowl staring at the candy. Finally he reached in and took one. He placed it on the table and stared at it, he woofed at it. He stared some more, licked his chops and PUT IT BACK in the bowl and walked away. Did he want the candy, oh yeah. Did he eat it? Nope. They can be trained that well but most, I'll admit, are not trained that well. When I was a young boy, maybe 5 years old. We had a german shepherd. He was very well trained also. My mom could leave food unattended on the table, no problem. She would open the oven door and set a pan roast beef or roast chicken on the door to cool. No problem. He would not touch it, watched or not. But butter? Whole other story. You leave a stick of butter anywhere he could reach and it was gone. He was a large shepherd so there were not many places he could not reach. Really, I think the number of dogs trained to the point they will leave food alone when not being supervised is very small indeed.
.
Now if we are talking obedience training, not food grubbing, that is a different story. Way back when I was first learning obedience training one of the final exercises was to put our dogs in a down/stay and not only leave the room but leave the building for 15 minutes. The only person that stayed was our trainer, not the owners. Most of the dogs in my class did not break their stay, which would be an automatic fail. I'm happy to report my dog was one of the ones that passed.

Most definitely make him stop. Did you know why dogs lick their balls? Right, you know the answer - just because they can. Might I add, they do it many times a day.

If it's a large dog and he jumps up to greet you - push him down with the hand on his chest, say NO, before he had a chance to stand up on two paws. It doesn't hurt the dog, but still it seems to be unpleasant enough for them, so they learn not to do it.

My dog licks a lot too, but she doesn't go for my face. I don't mind it when she licks me because she will usually just lick whatever is in front of her such as an ankle, a knee, a pair of pants, etc. She doesn't do it a lot but she does it enough to notice. Your dog could be going through a phase. If he keeps pestering you just stand up so he can't reach your face. I wouldn't worry about it though. Your dog is probably just a sweetie.

Ok well dogs generally have alot of germs, especially in their mouth. One day I was playing with my dog, and I just wipped like a very small amount of touth paste on his mouth he was like licking his own tounge for like 5 minutes, then I put tooth paste around of the corners of my mouth; he wouldn't kiss me 4 days lol. I guess you could use Mouthwash if you want it 2 be more potent.

Dogs greet each other by sometimes licking each others mouths or faces. this behavior is best adressed though basic obeidience training and teaching your dog the apropriate way to greet a human. consult your veterinarian for a check up and discuss local obedience trainers in your area.

Licking the mouth and throat is insinctive to pups. THat is how they tell mom they are humgry. Wolf pups will cause the parents to reguritate food for them. That is how baby wolves get fed.

But it is bothersome for pets to do it.

First off is your dog getting enough to eat? Is the food nutritious. Lots of the commercail dog foods are NOT nutritious. All Purina brands are like giving your dog substandard McDonlds food. Teh genreic dog foods will barely sustain life. Go to your local pet shop and ask them to recommend a GOOD Healty dog food.

If you have a good holsome nutiritous food try letting him lick your hand or arm. give him a spot he cn lick. It may be a comfort thing. I have one chihuahua that need my shin to lick himself to sleep. He will lick it ill he falls asleep. Trying to stop Rin from licking made him upset and nervous. Licking is a part of dog behavior. ONce I let him have a spot tp likc hsi behavior improved a lot.

And I have news for you, I have 13 dogs and not one of them lick thier butts! If your dog has good food he will not have intestinal upsets that irrtate his behind and he will not lick it. If one of my dogs accidently steps in pooh they will freeze till one of us get their foot cleaned off. All of them hate to walk in mud. Or lay where it is wet. Nor are they attracted to rotting meat or food of any kind. Many of the commercail dog food companies not only use rotting meat in the dog food but they use the intesitnes fecal matter and all. THey teach our pets to eat carrion and **** and then we wonder why they act the way they do. and we wonder why our dogs die so young!

It could be just about anything, she may have infected gums, something stuck between her teeth or the roof of her mouth.....does she have bad breath? If she does, she is having gum or tooth problems and really needs to see a vet. I have also heard of dogs getting something (bones, rawhide chews) stuck in the roof of their mouth and not be able to get them out and clawing and digging at their mouth incessantly because of it. You really need to take her to the vet.

This is a natural thing your dog is doing. If you don't like his or her kisses then start telling them no and maybe use the words no lickie and put your hand up in a stop motion. When they stop then praise them.
