If he wanted to break up , he is really saying he does not like you and he wants to find someone else. Ouch. But take it as it is.
let's remain friends could go three ways-
1) He is being kind and doesn't want to come off as a jerk
2) He still wants to be friends cos you guys do have some common interests and connection
3) He wants you on stanndby.
My take is it will be best for your heart if you not remain friends. At least for a few months post-breakup, stay away and dun hang out cos you'll only be kidding yourself and feeding your still-present feelings for him. After those few months when you've really gotten over him, then we'll see if friendship is still on the cards. But for now, save yourself- clean cut.

Friendships only work after a new beginning. A level that was not achieved in dating. In time if a friendship is strong the original spark may become stronger to patch things up. Take a few months off and see what happens. You will get hurt holding those feelings but always keep them close to your heart, don't dwell on them.

I believe it's best that you take a clean break. Remaining friends not only would destroy u , it will give you false hope and most importantly, it will prevent you from moving on, healing and letting go and with time you will be ready for another relationship with one more worthy of all that love you have in you to give and receive.
Take note loving a man should not have to be tough. Love..... real love is nurturing and it's give joy not heartache and pain or frustrations.

You don't want to be away from your boyfriend, but he will not be your boyfriend, he will be a friend. He will no longer let you put your head on his shoulder in the movie theater, bring you M&Ms when you have had a bad day, and he won't be there to hold you when you need to be held. He will be there to say oh yeah a bunch of us went out, we tried to call you but no one answered. He will be there to tell you about the coolest new girl he just met. He will be there just to drift away when his new girlfriend thinks its wierd that he is still friends with his ex. Does that sound like fun to you? Keep your good memories of him, don't create miserable ones.

from what i read it seems this so call 'friendship ' won't last cz you cannot forget him and if he ask you to be his gf again you probably say 'yes' again so i think you can only be friend through phone, no hanging out and date cz this will make you confuse. its not easy to be friends after being lover, man can but for woman it takes time . i hope you will go through this. if you cannot stop thinking about him i think you need a 'time out', don see him for a while maybe for couple of month just to col you down, hang out with your friends most that will help you over come it . when you are ready, u r ready.

He's being selfish asking you to remain friends after he dumps you. Why put yourself through that. Make a clean break and move on with your life.

This can happen but takes time, it all depends on how mature both of you are. Sometimes ex's become the best friends one can ever have. You can talk to them about everything.

He must be your first boyfriend...otherwise you would know that it is nearly impossible to be friends after you break up. Guys say that to cushion the break up.

the rule... when you break up, no contact for 60 days, then you can be freinds after that.
