Black and White are hues, black has reflective qualities but no color, white has hue qualities to lighten colors as well as black to darken colors. White turns red pink, while black turns red burgundy.
The color order of the spectrum is:
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple.
If you remember Red, Yellow and Blue, the primary colors, you've got it made. Orange, Green and Purple are the secondary colors. There are tertiary colors, as well. A tertiary color is when you mix a secondary color with a primary color.
Red and Yellow make orange, which sits between red and yellow in the spectrum. The neutralizing color for Yellow is Purple, which sits between Blue and Red. You have to count three colors past the color you are wondering about to find the opposite. Red's opposite or neutralizing color is Green.
Red + 1(Orange) +2(Yellow) +3(Green), that's how it works.

The others have complementary colors, meaning that they are an opposite and when mixed together will make a brownish mud color.
Below are the opposite colors:
Red - Green
Orange - Blue
Yellow - Purple
If you get a color wheel at an art store - it will show you the opposite colors and more about color properties.

Hi. the opposite of yellow is purple, the opposite of blue is orange, the opposite of red is green. These are called complimentary colours and they are found on the exact opposite side of the colour wheel. Easy as that!

You need a color wheel. It's not so much the opposite, but the contrast of that color. Red/ Green. Purple/ Yellow, Blue/ Orange, etc : )
Hope this helps

Why do you think all the colors have to have an opposite?if so tell me what is the opposite of apple and the rest of the fruits. i think the concept of opposite is not valid.white is just lack of color.

They aren't "opposites." Black is merely the absence of color. White actually contains many colors - try looking through a prism. (Remember we are strictly talking about "color" not race or color of skin.)

hey, white is just presence of too much light along with a combo of red gree and blue, where as black can be defined as a point where there is no light at all. so its surely not the opposite.

Complementary colors are color "opposites," by which I mean they lie on opposite sides of the color wheel from each other. As you can see from a wheel, which you can see here:
