I told him all about this bs war and how he'd die for nothing but rich conservative a$$holes if he went to Iraq and his girlfriend would be devestatd if he died. He was going to leave next week and cancelled everything. He said he's glad to have a friend like me that knows politics.

You save his future, and possibly his life. You are a wise and good friend to him. Good work!

Well good, just so long as someone else has to put his life on the line and not your friend/lover.
Nobody really wants to risk their life in a shitty war but the country we life in is based on people being willing to sacrifice everything so that douchbags at home can say anything they want.
It's too bad that voting isn't a priviledge to be earned through federal service, then we might see some changes in attitudes.

To each his own but I served 20 yrs in the military and they are the proudest 20 yrs of my life so far- In the words of Gen Douglas MacArthur to serve in the military is the noblest of profession. In the history of our country only 2% of population has served in our armed forces that maintains the freedoms we take for granted. Wrong or right it's still our country and I am proud to have served.

I think your friend might be in a heap of trouble. If he was supposed to leave next week (to go to boot camp, I suppose) then he already signed his enlistment forms.

I could be prosecuted for being AWOL, missing a movement or even desertion.

Yeah right. If he listened to you and believed it all, the military wouldn't want him anyway. If he was going to leave next week - he couldn't have canceled. The military doesn't work that way, but I'm sure YOU wouldn't know that. Enjoy the freedom that many have died for, you idiot.

to die for your country is a great honour. BUT to die for your country that invaded a small weak country (they said the war is in the name of freedom, but actually in the name of capitalism) is a whole different thing!!!

it's patriotic for fellow Americans not to support the government that invaded Iraq and all those small weak countries!!!

sorry to said but the truth is "bush is full of buLLsh*T!!!"

Good job. We can feel powerless at times. This is a great way to stick it to the Bush/Cheney culture of corruption. Never be afraid to speak your opinion. You may have saved his life. My husband went to Iraq. I tell everyone to avoid going there at all costs. We have sad stories. The Iraqis want our out, it's their country let do it then. We need to support our troops by bringing them home now!
