For use with a DVD player, get a test disc, either Digital Video Essentials http://www.videoessentials.com/ or Avia Guide to Home Theater http://www.ovationmultimedia.com/avia.html. They give step-by-step instructions to optimize your system performance (both video and audio). Unfortunately, until they make one in the new HD format, this won't help for HD reception. You could contact the Imaging Sciences Foundation http://www.imagingscience.com/ They will come to your home and calibrate your TV perfectly. But, as you might expect, that is very expensive (~$700 last I heard) but people with high-end home theaters swear by them.
