I know cut is important but everywhere I look, there is this branded cut, that unbranded ideal cut, hearts and arrows, special cuts, yada yada... the 4Cs... I mean seriously, is there one absolutely trusted place to go?

First find a diamond dealer or broker as may be called order just the diamond cut as you like then buy the ring and have it set cost much less , When i bought my engagement ring for my wife it cost me about 600.00 for a .55 cut tht was near flawless , and when we divorced o sold the damn thing and got about 1800.00 for it so they do increase in value and buying the ring say at zales or ?? they charge by the thousands when you can find a dealer in the yellow pages

diamonds are overpriced products in a very controlled market. do not expect to ever be able to sell a diamond for what you paid. why not give her something you can enjoy together, like a vacation? if she values a piece of glitter, she's pretty shallow.
