why is everyone insulting others beliefs?especially christians?

I don't think it's wrong to question others believes, but I don't know why insult have to be thrown. By non-believers or Christians. Some people just have a mean streak. Some people think they're better then others. Some people think they're smarter then everyone else. It some how makes them feel better about themselves when they hurt someone else.
