This may sound corny, but if I were you I would give it your dad's middle name or something.

Darling, you can't pick out a cats name without seeing the cat first. That's 1/2 the fun. When you see your new cat, the name will just come to you, but not before then.

That's a good idea. You might have your dad try to find some nice names from the language of that country. That way he would feel he was making a contribution to your new pet as a member of your family.

Did your dad have a funny or cute nickname as a child? Maybe something that your grandparents called him as a kid?

Do you know if it will be male or female?
Do you know it's colors and markings?
What about it's demeanor?

Name it "Daddy." (I prefer "Dropkick," but it would be hard to tie that to your dad, unless he was a punter in hi school.)
