Let me dispell the myth, macs can get virus's, it is just that a majority of hackers are focused on pc's because that is what the business world runs on. Aside from that, for photo post production I do suggest using a mac, though not based on the hardware. The operating system has some really nice built in color management/calibration features that are crucial when doing color corrections. I'd suggest getting yourself a mac pro and a Lacie CRT monitor. True CRT monitors arent as elegant and as big as an LCD monitor but this old technology is still hands down the best way to work with images i.e, resolution, refresh rates etc.. Also you may want to consider one of the G5 pro macs which you should be able to get cheaper now that intel has worked its way into macs. Despite apples claims these G5's will run a lot of your macs applications faster, especially older applications not optimized for these x85 sisk based chips. Indeed these chips are fast, but when the software isn't designed to optimize the performance of the chip your fast mac becomes is more or less like a 500hp corvette sitting in the garage.

usually, i would recomend macs hands down (no questions asked), as it has an unbeatable interface, and is designed specifically for graphics and images. the only caution i have, however, is if you are purchasing the macbook pro specifically, you will want to check with adobe ahead of time if you use any of their products (i.e. photoshop or illustrator) to see if they have come out with the patch for the macs that use the intel chip. otherwise, you may run into some technical difficulties editing your photos on those programs until the appropriate software comes out. otherwise, you can just as easily stick with the older machines like the g4, but i would definitely spend some time asking a mac 'genius' if you have a mac store nearby - otherwise, there's always the phone. best of luck!

It depends of your personal taste. I prefer PCs but Mac can do really great stuff for photo post-production. Better is one that you are used to do with it.
