I have two very large plain glass mirrors on my bathroom walls (builders standard issue for bathrooms here in FL). They have no casing or framing around them and are soooo ugly. Does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to make these look nicer without totally having to remove them?

Harold P has a good idea, can you please explain how to do this? Do you put it directly on the glass or wall or what? Sorry but I am clueless. Thanks

Go to an art or hobby store such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Ask if they have a glass frosting or glass etching kit. It'll contain decals with designs cut out of them, chemicals to put on, and some other accessories for doing it. When it's finished, it looks *really* nice.

It is so hard to answer questions with knowing what style your bathroom is or what colors and what type of wood or tile you have. I suggest using ties that are similar but a little more update to frame the mirrors with. You could also use a copper tin in squares and put your own designs on each sq.You can get the materials and kits at craft stores.Making frame is easy and according to the wood and style you can make it very nice. You can use 2 or 3 molding trims to add to a simple flat wooden frame to make it more elaborate or elegant, according to the trims you choose. You can also just paint a couple of shades of paint to look like frames and add shadows to make them look real. That is the cheapest and easiest way to get a more finished look. You can buy stencil patterns to make them look like picture-frame-paneling with the curved-in corners and use 3 shades of neutrals to give it a great look.Best wishes!

Check out some of the web sites for decorating bathrooms.

Consider the walls that the mirrors face -- what is on them that is reflected in the mirrors?

Try inserting a few screw in cup hooks at the corners and drape garlands of artificial flowers/ivy around them -- add butterflies, birds, or whatever your theme is -- sea shells, whatever.

You can also find some old/new wind chimes -- say dolphins or whatever and take strips of sheer blue material -- tie them to the ring so they kind of flow with the chimes. Hang it with a cup hook, if it does not weigh much, so it hangs down and is reflected in the mirror.

Get small windsocks (say fish or whatever the theme is), remove the stick or whatever and hang them on the wall.

Have fun with it!

Call a glass store and ask for beveled mirror edging to put on your mirror. It's about 3" wide, and is beveled. You just use Liquid Nails to apply it to the edges of your mirror. Just gives a bit more sparkle and shine.

Or, you could always take the mirror down, and have a glzer cut it to fit into 1 or 2 gorgeous picture frames, and hang them instead, so you have a framed mirror to look into rather thana sheet of mirror.

how about making the frames yourself? are they in an area where the water will fall on them. if not then you can make frames using cardboard and then maybe cover it with a plastic sheet so that it doesn't get wet. you can get either give different shades of your bathroom tiles or can get contrasting ones. you can also set up themes; i mean you can paint it wavy blue and cut it out that way so that it slightly resembles the ocean, or something like that. else you can make it simple frames(using cardboard) and paint it warm colours. also make sure that the colours look good with the type of lighting that you have used.
i would also go for small hangings on the corners of the glass.

hope i have opened up a pathway for your creativity!

Find some nice stensils and use the glass frosting spray and add a design in the corners or use glass etcher but that is more work and has some use hazards read the label before using.

You can frame them. If you want to, you can purchase bathroom decals (should match your decor) that generally stick on tiles. They stick equally well to glass, and can be taken off when you get sick of them. You could also create a frame with colored stones & a hot glue gun, frame it with flower garland (which you can change by season), or stencil it. There are also metallic pens that write on glass if you want to draw a design around them. Bamboo works, too, if it goes with your decor. You can create a frame with bamboo. Good luck!

you can buy wood frames to match your cabinets and glue them in place around the outside. the wood rails for frames can be bought in bulk from a big frame shop or online. you could also get metal frames to match your fixtures (chrome, s/s, brushed nickel, etc.). you could get a lattice work design to spice it up a little. just make sure you're matching either your cabinets or fixtures so it doesn't clash too much.

What's your theme in the bathroom? Buy a hot glue gun (with a trigger). Affix starfish, seashells, 3-D appliques from Michaels, even plain rope will do. Just get that gun and get imaginative. It's easy to do and you live in Fla! Natural resources...
