would you say there is a significance in a guy giving a girl a very expensive ring, something that was an actual investment? they are not "going out", "dating" or what have you. both have feelings for the other, but they have only been good friends for the past 3 years. so is this a serious sign or could this be absolutely nothing at all?

That sounds a little fishy for being "just good friends." I've been really great friends with a guy for 8 years and I'd be a little freaked out if he gave me an expensive ring. If an expensive gift is desirable, then a piece of artwork or a trip to a concert or something would be more appropriate than jewelry.

this is a sign that the guy wants to move on to the next higher level of the relationship.

yes, an expense gift is good but also he should tell her how he feels about her and ask her out then give the gift.

he is prolly tryin to show her his feelings, be it a friendship or more. it could be a serious sign, or (unlikely) it could be that he is just a really good friend. she should talk to him and find out.

Yes, it means one of two things. Either he's rich and afford to throw money around, or he's completely insane.
