All species and sexes of birds bob their heads to express a lot of different emotions. Usually they're excitement, anger and love. Here's some help with their body language:

Excitement: Excitement is usually accompanied by two-stepping, or rapid movement to both the left and the right, while the bird looks at you from the side of one eye

Anger: an angry bird will also usually also fluff up its feathers, stand in a pretty stationary spot and lean down low while it bobs, looking up into your eyes. They usually do this either very slowly or very quickly.

Love: this kind of head bobbing is unmistakable. A bird in love uses head bobbing to crane its neck against its crop (pouch of food above the 1st stomach), to bring up pre-digested food. It will bring its open mouth to whatever part of your body is closest to it, usually the fingers, or the mouth if it's on your shoulder, and try to feed you. Sometimes it will really deposit food on you, other times it will just mimic the action.

Two out of three reasons indicate that your bird really enjoys your company. If it's the third reason, say "Thank you" when your bird does it, then walk away, so you don't encourage it.

Many parrots bob their heads when they play. It means they're having a whole lot of fun and it's their way of goofing off. My female Conure does this and if I bob she will bob along with me. :-)

Sometimes bobbing happens just before a bird will regurgitate. If a wet puddle comes up (rather disgusting and brown), take it as a sign of true love. She considers you a mate!

I have parakeets, and the boy and girl do that. It looks like they are dancing, but I think they do it to help them blink .. at least pigeons do that. I think that they do that for fun though?
