Nothing will happen to your B1/B2 visa if you qualify for the H1. People are entitled to more than one type of US visa - you just can't have two of the same kind.

If you don't qualify for the H1 because of some serious problem with the petition or your qualifications, the consul might cancel your B1/B2 to save you from the temptation of trying to enter and work illegally. But if you are qualified, the employment is genuine, and everything is fine, the B1/B2 will stay.

You need to be careful because the B-1 visa actually does not allow you to come and work for money, the H-1 would though. If INS checks and sees you have been working for money you may have problems later.
