It's a good thing you can't do animal behavior projects because that would be "booorrrring". Science is everywhere you look man! Don't pick the typical. I'm not going to suggest anything specifically, but I would suggest you get the book "How Things Work" by David Macaulay. This will inspire you and your 7th grader. I'm sorry, you are the 7th grader uh. duh!

Some ideas:
What is the best substance to clean burned food from a pan?
Good Answer: Cover the bottom with baking soda, and boil it for a few minutes with an inch of water. Your teacher should be very impressed with this one, since everyone wants to know how to clean a burned pan. Variables to try would be vinegar, soap, salt, or lemon juice and boil with water like the baking soda.
Which brand of laundry soap is best at removing stains?
Buy a pack of t-shirts, and cover with spots of different substances like ketchup, chocolate, mud, grass, red wine, ink, etc. Let them sit overnight or even longer. Keep one of them unwashed as an example. Then, wash each shirt separately in a bucket with a different kind of soap. To save money on the soap, you could go to a laundromat and buy the small packages. Or try finding small ones at Target.
Plant growth is also a good experiment to do. You could experiment with different things like plant food, different amounts of water, or different amounts (or colors!) of light.
Good luck!

HAHA same with me exactly. My project question is:
What affect do substitute-fertilizers have on seed germination?
In other words... will random foods in the soil of a growing plant effect it? like peanuts, bananas, altoids, bread (meats might start to smell bad) you put a food mixed in with the soil and then see if it grows faster compared to another one.
