to the first guy that answered your question, its so easy to sit on your computer and say that, but to really do it is something else, and unlike christians you have no hope of salvation, so I see outalking, but don`t think you could finish the Job like our saviour did.

An end to worldwide religious idiocy would definitely be worth dying for. I'm just not stupid enough to think that my death, your death, or any other person's death is going to bring it about.

The death of Jesus did not bring about world peace. If that is what he really wanted, he would have done a better job of achieving it by sticking around for awhile to try to talk reason to all the idiots and maybe ingrain into them that warfare in the name of religion is wrong. There have been many people killed in the name of Jesus over the past 2,000 years.

umm....huh?

you want to flip and reverse a mythology to suit your needs? Go right ahead...but again, should you force or push another to "sacrifice" themselves....someone somewhere might get the idea of murder...make sure you have this legal binding contract written ahead and notarized and even recorded in a legal format, before proceeding. SOmeone might believe in that Athiest that gave himself up as the martyr.

The ultimate act of love and selflessness is if someone sacrifices themself without any thought of reward -- e.g. if someone gave their life for someone and didn't believe in an afterlife or didn't want to be remembered as a hero.

There have been people who sacrificed themselves for all kinds of causes. It's not that unusual.
