Because it so readily
available to us everyday.
What a shame that we do
take it so for granted. If
they only knew how different
things are in other parts of
the world.
We are extremely fortunate,
but I'm afraid we're going
down fast.
Let us hang on to our
Freedom!

They didn't work for it and don't know anything to contrast it with.
We take electric lights, pure drinking water, flush toilets, honest policemen, bountiful supermarkets, decent roads and getting a dial tone 99.9999% of the time we pick up the phone for granted too.
People in Western Europe who didn't go through WWII take most of those for granted too, although the French light a candle in the family altar when they get who they dialed the first time.

Most of us have never had to live without our freedom, and the amendments to the constitution that we hold dear.
That is exactly why I am torn about Iraq. I never wanted our men and women there but most of the Iraqi people are so glad for their new found freedoms. I realize that we cannot turn around and walk away now.

It's like l;iving on the beach. Yes yes you live oin the beach the view is beautiful the salt sea the fresh air....but do you have a tan? No of course you don't have a tan that would require you actually take a day off work.
What I'm saying is that anything you grow accustomed to you soon, discover it will always be there and is no challenge to attain.

They take it for granted because everything has been given to them all their lives. The people who take it for granted also don't have the nerve to go fight or support war in order to obtain or retain our freedom.

I don't know. Maybe they've never been hassled by the cops or been in an experience where citizenship was called into question, such as when you apply for a passport. I think people just get into routines and tend to stick to them if they work.

just like how everyone else said, we don't know what it's like without the freedoms. we're not the colonists who had some freedoms while Great Britain was fighting the French and Indian War and then had them take those freedoms away, so we don't take them as seriously as they did

Do you take air for granted? Do you expect that everywhere you go (besides underwater) that you will be able to breath? Of course you do, because you have always had it.
