I think that the British were the first to use radar... here's an article on it that says it was used to help to detect the German Luftwaff raids during the Battle of Britain.

Also here's something:

"At the start of World War II both the United Kingdom and Nazi Germany knew of each other's ongoing efforts in their "battle of the beams". Both nations were intensely interested in the other's developments in the field, and engaged in an active campaign of espionage and false leaks about their respective equipment. But it was only in Britain that the usefulness of the system became obvious, so while the German systems had the edge technologically (operating on much shorter wavelengths) only Britain started true mass deployment of both the radars and the control systems needed to support them.

Research had been initiated by Sir Henry Tizard's Aeronautical Research Committee in 1935 and, from 1940, was based at the Telecommunications Research Establishment (TRE). But much of the credit belongs to Watson-Watt, who turned from the technical side of radar to building up a usable network of machines and the people to run them. After watching a demonstration in which his radar operators were attempting to locate an "attacking" bomber, he noticed that the primary problem was not technological, but worker overload. By 1940 Watt had built up a layered organization that efficiently passed information along, and was able to track large numbers of aircraft."

That's basically all there is to know about it :)

Yes. The Germans developed a radar chain called the Wurzburg system similar to the British Chain Home to protect their key industrial areas from 1940 onwards. In addition starting from 1941 onward they installed Lichtenstein radars on their twin-engined heavy night-fighters.
The German navy also had radars on some of their ships for fire control and navigation. The German armed forces also developed some early countermeasures like the Naxos radar detector during the war. And they in all likelihood also had various other radar projects which got discontinued by the end of the war and their defeat.

Yes. The Brits had it first. Used it in the planes and ships. Germans also knew about it / their scientists working on it! However, as is the case, a shot down British bomber (over France) handed a major part of the puzzle to the German unit who inspected all downed planes, thus allowing them to get their own radar fit for testing and ultimately installed.

Yes, they did. The Bf110 Owl Night fighter which was used against British bombers had radar as well as ground control guidance which used radar, ships and guns had radar for fire control. Large scale radar was used in anti aircraft defences They never seemed to get the shortwave or near seeing radar right but they had radar.

Yes they had radar installations along the french coast and could see british aircraft taking off from england.
Also on D-Day the invasion force was detected by german radar but the sighting was dismissed as an error.

yes they did but it was the UK to develope the radar first. Later on, the nazi's applied it to their bomber and recon planes and thats why some planes have rods coming out of the nose of the plane.
