My cat picked one up and immediately dropped it. He shook his head wildly, flicking his tongue like he was trying to get the taste out of his mouth. He didn't bite it, but he got a good taste of the goo that they are covered with. I got the idea that it tasted really bad, and that their taste must be their primary defense against predators.
Someone told me that tree frogs are poisonous, so now I am worried.
Does anyone know what symptoms I should be watching for, and should I be really worried?

Hi there...not all tree frogs are poisonous, however this depends on where you live so you will need to contact a local poison centre to learn more. Perhaps any local shelter in your region may know as well.

Symtpoms to observe:
- Appears uncomfortable or drowsy.
- Vomiting, voiding of the bowel and/or bladder.
- Salivation or drooling from the mouth.
- Breathing may appear altered or forced.
- Muscle tremors, twitching through to convulsions.
- Altered mental state. Your pet may appear disorientated, over-reactive to sound or light and may appear to be hallucinating.
- Wobbly gait (ataxia).
- Changes in gum colour to blue, pale or even very red.
- Odours either on the breath or from contamination on the skin.

From what I can tell, tree frogs are not poisonous. Your cat should be fine, but since I'm not an expert, you might want to call your vet if you notice _anything_ out of the ordinary.

in south america some species of tree frogs are called poison arrow frogs, simply wiping the dart on their mucus is a near guarantee the victim will die.
