He was simply quoting an emporer's view of Islam.
The pope's main point was how reason should be a key component in religion. He referred to the "logos" because of the greek influence the new testament books of the bible had.
With reason, there is no need for violence in religion.
Unlike Islam, Chistianity has its roots in reason.

There is really nothing wrong with what the Pope said; he was quoting a passage in a book of an incident that happened long ago.
There has to be something very shallow in a religion that condones suicide bombings, beheading of innocent people and using the sword to keep members from leaving yet, cannot accept mild criticism.
If the world has to be very careful how we speak of religions and make comparisons, then the world is in deep trouble and our freedom of speach has been canceled.
I see that the POPE has not apologized since he did not do anything wrong. Bravo to him. It's nice to see a strong man who will stand up for his beliefs.
There is the possibility that some idiot will bomb the Vatican And when he does he will have produced the evidence that the Pope was right in every sense.

Well, my friend (or not) Muslims are not the only ones with access to explosives and if radical Muslims carry on the way they do, they might get burnt too...ultimately. But I don't see Christians exploding Muslim holy places somehow, it's a prerogative of cowardly and weak - such as so many terrorist groups in the East!

The Pope spoke the truth. The non-radical Muslims, if they exist, are the ones that need to stand up and speak out against the radicals of their religion.
