this is how you know: He always tells us in advance thru His word.Romans 12: 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"[d]says the Lord. 20On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."[e] 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Sounds like I could have written this question. If the situation is such that revenge will serve no purpose, then focus on the positives of your life. I know it's easier said than done. And remember in the grand scheme of things it probably doesn't mean much. In time your feelings of revenge will be mitigated.
Keep praying

If you were to avenge, knowing the commandment of the Lord, and then exacted the revenge yourself, by assuming that the Lord is acting through you, I believe you would be putting God to the test.

Is the person who offended you a Christian? If so, you are to follow the steps in Matthew 18:15ff. If they aren't a Christian, allow God the opportunity. He is more than capable.

Because He says revenge is HIS, not yours. He wouldn't work vengence through you. He gets to know the heart, we only know the person.

Keep praying, for yourself & the other person. Maybe God will work through you for the other person's repentance. Maybe your witness of forgiveness will lead them to appologize.

Does your "vengence depend on a lie, a bit of physical violence or something bad?" Then why not get revenge if it doesn't?
