What kind of motion should I make when playing? From the elbow, from the wrist? Should the pick remaing perpendicular to the strings at all times?

You know what--if I were you, I wouldn't worry about anything but playing that guitar. You play that thing any ole way that is comfortable for you. If it's comfortable for you to lay the thing on your lap or put it on the top of your head, you just play that thing. Just watch some of the guitar gods play. I don't think they even entertain any thoughts of how the guitar should be played. You just play and make some noise.
