I live on base near a military cemetary, I see funerals everyday. But when I am driving I always pull over as respect for the family of the deceased some people get pissed and speed past, and others join. what would you do?

I always do whether or not it is on the same side of the road or not. Then I have people honking swearing at me for trying to show respect for a person that is no longer with us. I hate it when people cut off funerals totally disrespectful and rude.

Here in Tennessee where I live, we all pull over for a funeral procession. I have never seen anyone not pull over for one. It is a showing of respect for the deceased and their family.

I always pull over for funeral processions in order to honor the deceased, even though I'm an atheist.

I pull over/slow down when it won't put others in danger. I was on the interstate on Friday, during rush hour, speed limit is 65mph, there was an unmarked funeral procession (no police escort, cars only had their hazards on) these cars were going about 45mph. It was seriously putting others in danger. When people were approaching the front of the line, where the hearse was, only then realizing it was a funeral procession, were braking. I saw several cars and tractor trailers barely avoid accidents. No one really had a choice but TO pass the procession.

We always pull over to the side of the road and stop. It is a sign of respect.

I know that when my father-in-law died. We had a very, very long funeral line to the cemetery...and it touched my heart to see all the cars pulled over to the side--in respect.

I pull over showing respect is a good thing. I wish there were more people with respect for others

you should still pull over. that is good etiquette and it is very respectful. just because others are flying passed you doesnt mean that you should just keep going as well. the appropriate thing to do is just have respect and curtosy to the family who is grieving, who cares about the rude people who just keep driving by. i hope this helps!

There's no law requiring it, and the police officers who escort are off duty. That said, if the people in the procession aren't doing enough to keep it going, I will go on my way--my right of way. You can only be expected to respectful to a certain point when it's intrusive and inconvenient. The point of the procession is to keep the people together between the church and the cemetery so everyone arrives about the same time. As long as what you do doesn't materially interfere with that goal, it's no disrespect.
