I bought a used car as is and I read the rules about how a dealership has to tell you what it can reasonably figure out about the car. So, it's obvious that the airbags have gone off because of the way they're fit back in (slightly not aligned) and the windows have Second Generation Airbags stickers in them. Also, there is what looks like blood splatters on the car. I didn't notice it because of the print on the car, they're very small and on the ceiling and the part that's really gross is where it's dried onto the steering column below the dash about where my knees are. Now, I took it back in for a new windshield (that's another clue) because that was included in buying the car and asked them very politly to redetail the car. There were also other places where it obviously had not been cleaned but I hadn't noticed it b/c my car is a Taurus and it's dirty where you pull out the cup holders. When I dropped off the car I showed the salesman where it was dirty...

and he nodded in agreement. I called the dealership and talked to the man who actually serviced the car and asked him if it was done and if it had been cleaned. He said the car was done and he got some spots out (can't find where) but was understaffed and didn't have time to clean it. Does anyone out there have any ideas? Do I have any rights concerning this? I know I can't return it without about a 5% penalty but there's got to be something I can do...right?

You should check with your states Attorney generals office about the legal requirements of your particular state.

As-Is usually means just that, but states have different requirements for used cars. Some are required to inform you of any previous damages or repairs if known, this is often difficult to prove, the dealer can always claim, "They didn't know.

A carfax report may show any repairs reported to the insurance company, dmv etc, but this is not 100%

It's possible that this car could have been wrecked and not reported, or if reported it hasn't had time to show on record. (This sometimes take over a year)

In the meantime, check the links below for some obvious signs of what to look for concerning paint and or body repairs.

The Second Generation Airbags stickers do NOT mean that the airbags have been replaced. It refers to the fact that the airbags will deploy with different force depending upon the violence of a crash. The car came that way from the factory.

Airbags are not "fit back in" after they deploy. They are single-use and the entire assembly has to be replaced.

However, since you bought the car "as-is" you probably don't have any claim against the dealer. You should have run a Car Fax report on it, as well as had it inspected by an independent mechanic.

Consult with a local attorney to see if your state provides any protections but your chances are not great.

Sales person for a long time. there is norhing you can do, thats why you should check the car for all those detail before buying it,
the problem with people when they buy a car is that they get so exited and happy that they overlook at all this things, if you don't tell them to fix it before and put on the contract, they are not obligated to do nothing on the car, some times they will do it to keep the customer happy, talk to the manager, but do not go yelling because you won't get nothing done on your car.
I have seen this all the time.
