I agree with Panama...there is nothing to feel guilty about! You were smart enough to identify that it was a problem for you...AND you are doing something about it. How long did it take you to get in this slump? Don't you think you should allow yourself time to self-correct and make it all better? Being a go-getter and taking on too much, and knowing you have...is a good thing...you can make it better. You have options and are using them...You are one SMART puppy...don't down yourself for being human. Take your meds, take care of yourself, get rid of stressful situations and give yourself a break...we all deserve the best...hugs to you!

Don't feel guilty about it because even though your lifestyle contributed to the eventual sickness, you owe it to yourself to get better. Look at it this way. If you made yourself sick, feeling guilty about it is only going to continue or worsen the condition. You deserve to become well and so should remember just that God has put you here for a reason, you have a job to do while you ar here, and your depression will not last.
I was suffering from depression like that for a month or two up until just recently. My father told me that and it helped. I also tried a few medications but could not handle their affects, although St. John's Wort was good - wasn't too strong to cause anxiety, but had an affect of allowing me to easily brush off the depression. One other tip in case this is a problem for you: get good sleep - get sleep meds if you have to. You will return to normal. Keep hope alive - you deserve it!

For starters you are not to blame for your depression. Everybody puts themselves in stressful situations, it's life hun, out of your control okay? It's a serious condition that meds alone will not fix. Make sure you are taking the right med for you, there are many kinds with many side effects that could be making it worse for you.
They are right in a sense that you do have to find positive steps to being happy, only you can do this. You have a very big research tool right in front of you that's waiting for you to tap into. Meaning start looking on the interent for ways to begin your happy life style. Don't be afraid or feel guilty to turn to family and friends, that is what they are there for. Try some self help books. Also make sure you fully understand depression by researching and hopefully that can help you to make some changes by better understanding what it is. Remember you are not alone in this.
Good luck.

It is NOT your fault! Depression is an illness. It sounds like you are doing a bunch of positive things to get control. Good for you! It's not an easy road, but you will come out of it. The people who are telling you that it is a decision do not understand depression. They may be well intentioned, but it's like telling a diabetic to just think their blood sugar lower--can't be done. You need to give yourself a break and take it one day at a time!

Do NOT blame yourself for depression - no matter what circumstances you put yourself in and what they led to. Keep working towards feeling better and have faith that you can and will feel normal again - I have gone through this and there IS light at the end of the tunnel.

You would be helped by talking with your therapist about this idea of feeling guilty about depression. My opinion is, don't feel guilty about feeling depressed. Instead feel good that you are doing things about it, that you are reaching out to get medication and therapy. Whoever is telling you to feel guilty about it is not a real therapist. It might be so-called "friends", or family, or church members who just don't understand it. They have no business telling you to feel guilty.

Feeling depressed is not something to feel guilty about, if anything that only makes it worse. Accept that you messed up, accept that people make mistakes, forgive yourself and keep working in this good direction that you're going in because THAT is the only way you're going to get better.

you shouldnt feel guilty at all. but part of whats making harder is you are overwhelmed. just handle one problem at a time. trust me the other problems will be there tomorrow for a chance at resolution.
and trying every resoution at one time is just making it more overwhelming. you cant do it all in one day. relax and make subtle changes one at a time.
