is it peer pressure? or something else? Has his IQ been tested? Is it very high? Also, try taking him away from the current "peers" and let him only be involved with a new set of peers, perhaps at church. My younger brother was very much like this and had an extremely high IQ. It turns out that he process information differently, is now on meds that keep him "straight" and he is now married and does hold a decent job. It was a long process and it was at its worse when he was 16. It did not get better until he was 23 when he met a girl that just "laid the law down" and that is when he started getting help. His was medical - not psychiatric( the psychiatrists actually made things worse when he was younger). He liked to try things simply to see what would happen and to see your reaction - even though there were consequences. He didn't care. Like I said - it took years, and a lot of toll on the entire family. This probably isn't all that helpful - for that I'm sorry. But please know that you are not alone and it can get better. God Bless and I will say a prayer for you and your family. I don't know how involved you are with a church, but this may the best time to get really involved and sink yourself and your family into a Christian belief. Look for Churches that believe in the Gifts of the Bible, and believe in healing for all.

Have you tried counseling? That is a tough question, it would be very easy for me to say, kick him out, but he is only 16 and legally you can't. Get some help for the child, can you talk to him or is it a useless gesture on your part?
