I have a palate expander on the roof of my mouth. I've had it on for a while now (about 2 1/2 weeks), and I'm getting it off in about 2 weeks also. It hurts so much right now. It's too much pressure on the top of my mouth for right now. My orthodotist wants to keep it in longer than others because she says I'm too young. Is there any ways of reducing the pain exept for pain relievers? Don't get me wrong I'm using pain relievers (Advil, Tynelol), but it's not really helping. Any other ways?

That brings back some unpleasant memories from the early 1970s. I had to wear one of those things with a mouthfull of braces to correct a severe underbite, and it hurt like mad every time the orthodontist adjusted it. Be glad it's only for a little over a month, I had to wear mine for many long months in order to get my teeth to line up correctly.

Not much more you can do for the pain than you're already doing, either. We only had asprin and Tylenol back then, and my parents were not too keen on me taking either one on a regular basis. Ibuprofin might take the edge off, and Excedrin has a pretty good "migraine formula" that helped when I had a toothache recently.

ok, I'm no ortho, but I did have the expander...about 13 yrs. ago! lol
Its hurting because the bones are about to pop apart. I does not really hurt, just very sore. If the pressure is what is bothering you, you might want to try not turning the thing for a day or two. Or they might pop apart tonight, and the pressure will be gone tomorrow. good luck
